Just a day later after the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) decided to send their team to India for the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023, they also announced their new chief selector of the Pakistan cricket team. They appointed former legendary Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq as the new chief selector on Monday, August 7.

Interestingly, Inzamam has also served earlier as a chief selector from 2016 to 2019 and now the board has called him back ahead of the major world event and the Asia Cup 2023. However, many fans have reacted to the news and are saying that he will include the players in the squad who are close to him, especially Imam-ul-Haq.

Inzamam will be tested in the upcoming ODI series between Pakistan and Afghanistan which will be played in Sri Lanka on August 22. Inzamam will have to select a squad for the series and then he will make selections for the Asia Cup 2023 and just like in 2019, he will once again select players for another ODI World Cup.

Inzamam’s brilliant records as a player

It’d be interesting to see if Inzamam could change the fate of the Pakistan cricket team considering their past performance, especially at home. They might have performed exceptionally well in the recently played 2-match Test series against Sri Lanka but they have to show their effort in the 50-over format.

Talking about Inzamam, he played 120 Tests and 378 ODI matches in his career and scored 8830 and 11739 runs respectively in both formats. His figures are enough to tell what kind of a batter Inzamam was. He ended his Test career with a brilliant average of 49.60 which included 46 half-centuries and 25 centuries.

Talking about his ODI average, he ended up his career with 39.52 which included 83 fifties and 10 hundreds. Inzamam failed to convert his fifty into a century multiple times. However, he was brilliant with his leadership skills as he helped Pakistan to reach a great level.
