Late Dybala penalty denies Inter Derby d’Italia Win

Inter Milan had to share the spoils with Juventus as Paulo Dybala converted a late penalty to make the scoreline 1-1. 

Inter had suffered their first loss in ten matches in their previous Serie A match, when they lost 3-1 to a 10-man Lazio. 

Juventus had the worst start to their Serie A campaign in 60 years,  but Massimiliano Allegri’s men have enjoyed a fine run of form lately with six wins in their last six matches. 

The Bianconeri had the chance to take the lead as Alvaro Morata forced Samir Handanovic into action early in the game. Alex Sandro could not reach the rebound before Inter cleared the danger.

Inter then opened the scoring in the 17th minute.

Darmian played the ball to Skriniar, who found Hakan Calhanoglu in the box. 

The Turkish international hit the woodwork before Edin Dzeko struck the rebound home for his seventh goal of the season. 

Juventus had to deal with another setback immediately as Federico Bernardeschi went off with a shoulder injury. 

Juan Cuadrado fired his shot wide in the 23rd minute as Juventus turned up the pressure on the Nerazzurri backline in search of an equaliser. 

But, they could not test Handanovic on goal before half time as Leonardo Bonucci missed another good opportunity right before the break. 

In the hour mark, Barella made a lung-busting run and drifted a cross into the Juventus box.

He did find Dzeko, but the former Manchester City forward could not keep his header on target. 

Three minutes later, Ivan Perisic started a brilliant move as the Croatian played one two with Dzeko and burst into the danger zone.

He did everything right till he pulled away from Danilo and got to his favoured shooting position. Perisic’s shot lacked the intensity to cause Szczesny any real trouble. 

In an instant reaction, Weston McKennie sent a cross towards Alvaro Morata on the opposite end of the pitch.

Morata did meet the ball with his header, but it flew past the Inter goal. 

Dybala and Chiesa come on

Allegri threw in Dybala and Chiesa into the mix, to raise the attacking tempo.

But, nothing significant happened until Alex Sandro was brought down in the penalty box by Denzel Dumfries. 

Referee Maurizio Mariani had to take a look at the pitchside monitor before blowing the whistle for penalty.  

Inter boss Simone Inzaghi was furious at the decision and got sent off for his sideline antics. 

Dybala scored from the spot to restore parity in the match, and earn Juve a valuable point that saw them move up to the sixth position. 

Inter are third with 18 points to their name, three points above Juve, but no less than seven points behind Napoli and Milan at the top.
