In the first semifinal of the ongoing U19 Asia Cup 2023, UAE and Pakistan locked horns at the Apex Council Academy, Dubai. For the first time in the history of the tournament, the United Arab Emirates qualified for the semis, beating Sri Lanka and Japan. On the other hand, Pakistan beat India, Afghanistan and Nepal. Meanwhile, in this game, the Green Brigade won the toss and elected to bowl first.

Even though Ubaid Shah removed Akshat Rai, the likes of Tanish Suri and Aryansh Sharma put together a brisk 40 runs for the second wicket. After the wicket of Suri, the team had a mini-collapse as they were reduced to 89/5. At this stage, Ethan D’Souza and skipper Aayan Afzal Khan put together 54 runs for the sixth wicket. The latter scored fifty while D’Souza got 37. In the end, the team was bowled out for 193.

For the Shaheens, Shah took four wickets while Ali Asfand and Arafat Minhas took two wickets each. On the other hand, Mohammad Zeeshan and Amir Hassan took one each.

UAE wins a low-scoring encounter to reach the final

In reply, the Green Brigade had a poor start as they lost two wickets for 22 runs. At this stage, the likes of skipper Saad Baig and Azam Awais put together 83 runs for the third wicket. At this point, it looked like the team would win this game. However, the Emirates bowlers made a comeback and managed to win the game.

Apparently, from 108/2, the team was reduced to 121/7. At this point, tailenders Asfand and Hassan put together put together 44 runs to keep the team in the game. In the end, the required run rate was going up, and was bowled out for 182, losing the game by 11 runs.
