Did Yashasvi Jaiswal sell Pani-puris with his father? Know the complete truth here
Yashasvi Jaiswal has been the talk of the town with his red-hot form since the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. Thanks to his meticulous show in the IPL 2023, Jaiswal received his maiden call-up to the Indian National Team for the Test series against West Indies. He scored a fantastic 171 off 387 on debut and then played promisingly in the second Test as well. Jaiswal did not play a part in the ODI series against West Indies India won 2-1. However, he is named in the squad for the T20I series and will be expected to feature in the five-match series.
Following Jaiswal’s rise to fame, a video of him selling pani-puri went viral online. In the video, Jaiswal is seen selling the savoury Indian snack along with a man believed to be his father. However, as Zee News reports, that man is actually not his father. In fact, his father never sold pani-puris in his life. It is true that Jaiswal’s family had financial issues but his father was not a pani-puri seller. The confusion was cleared by none other than Jaiswal’s childhood coach Jwala Singh.
Yashasvi Jaiswal slept in tents at Azad Maidan during his coaching days
Singh admits that Yashasvi Jaiswal’s family was financially unstable and they could not afford to get Jaiswal a room to live in Mumbai. He had to shift to tents in Azad Maidan where he would sleep after training under Singh. He says that whenever Jaiswal had some time, he would help out pani puri sellers in and around the Wankhede Stadium for meagre money which would help him survive the day. All of it was revealed in an interaction with Cric Crak, a YouTube channel.
“On social media, a photo and a video went viral which shows Jaiswal standing next to a pani-puri guy claiming that he is his father. In 2018, when he was selected for the U-19’s for the first time, one of the TV channels had approached me, insisting on taking visuals of Jaiswal selling pani-puri. I was disappointed but the channel requested by saying that it is ‘normal’ and took the visuals anyway,” Jawala Singh said.
