Novak Djokovic is currently the No.1 seeded player. He was eyeing for his 11th Australian Open and was facing Jannik Sinner in the semi-final on Friday. The latter did the biggest upset of the tournament as he defeated Djokovic and ended his 10-time champion’s career unbeaten streak in Melbourne Park. He will face either third-seeded Daniil Medvedev or sixth-seeded Alexander Zverev for the championship on Sunday.

The 22-year-old Italian broke Djokovic’s serve twice in the first two sets but failed to convert a match point in the third set of his 6-1, 6-2, 6-7 (6), 6-3 victory on Friday, securing his maiden Grand Slam final appearance. Djokovic has not lost a single at Melbourne Park since 2018 and was on a 33-match winning streak at the season’s first Grand Slam.

Every time he has won a quarterfinal in Australia, Djokovic has gone on to win the title. The Serbian, defeated Dino Prizmic, Alexei Popyrin, Tomas Martin Etcheverry, Adrian Mannarino and Taylor Fritz en route to the last four, is now out of the tournament.

I felt like he was not feeling that great on the court: Jannik Sinner

“It was a very, tough match,” said Sinner. “I started off really well. He missed in the first two sets. I felt like he was not feeling that great on court so I just tried to keep pushing.    “It’s always nice to have this kind of player who you can learn from,” Sinner said in his on-court TV interview. “I lost last year in the semifinals in Wimbledon and I learned a lot from that. It’s all part of the process.”

“I don’t know what to say. The confidence from the end of last season has, for sure, kept the belief I can play against the best players in the world and I’m really happy I can play in my first final.”

In the last four games the Italian has beaten the veteran 3 times and has been dominating against Djokovic. The final of the Australian Open will be taking place on Sunday.
