India has completely dominated the whole series against Sri Lanka in all the 3 formats.
The new Indian skipper Rohit Sharma has won his first series as a Test skipper and it will be a proud moment for him.
Dimuth Karunaratne and Kusal Mendis showed some resistance but the Indian bowlers were too good for them as the Sri Lankan team was all-out on only 208 runs and suffered a huge defeat by 238 runs.
India has gained so many positives from this series like Hanuma Vihari cementing the no 3 position and Shreyas Iyer emerging as a reliable middle-order batter.
Bumrah was also exceptional in the series and especially in the second match in which he claimed an 8-wicket haul.
Ravindra Jadeja’s all-round heroics and Ashwin becoming the 8th highest wicket-taker in Test history were also amongst the pluses from this series.
On the other hand, Sri Lanka was totally outclassed by the Indian team.
The batting lineup failed in the whole series and the bowling was also not up to the mark.
The spinners bowled beautifully but they didn’t get any support from the pacers, unlike the Indian bowling unit, where both the spinners and seamers contributed to the victory.
Mendis and Karunaratne’s partnership
Sri Lanka was one down for 28 runs when they came to bat in the morning session and both Karunaratne and Mendis negotiated the difficult first hour in the morning with patience.
Indian bowlers bowled at good line and lengths but they were not able to pick an early wicket due to superb batting from both the Sri Lankan batters.
Karunaratne and Mendis scored runs at a quicker rate to remove the pressure.
Mendis completed his half-century and was looking good for a big one but he failed to read the flight from Ashwin and got stumped out after scoring 54 runs from only 60 deliveries.

In the very next over, Jadeja clean bowled the experienced Mathews for only 1 run.
The wickets started to fumble after the departure of Mendis but Karunaratne played patiently and blocked the other end with his excellent batting.
The Sri Lankan opener completed the 14th Test ton of his career.

Jasprit Bumrah ended Karunaratne’s resistance with an extraordinary delivery that knocked out his stumps from the ground.
Karunaratne smashed 15 hours in his knock of 107 runs.
The Sri Lankan side was bowled out for only 208 runs and only 3 batters were able to cross the 2 digit mark in the second innings.
