David Warner comes with hilarious reply when asked about retirement rumours after Ashes 2023
Australia’s veteran opening batter David Warner earlier announced that he will be retiring from Test cricket in January 2024 after the home Test series against Pakistan. Warner is performing decently in the ongoing Ashes 2023 series but failing to score big constantly.
Meanwhile, Warner was recently asked about his retirement rumours after the 5th Ashes Test at The Oval. However, Warner laughed off all the rumours with a cheeky reply and said that he is not aware of any rumours as he had been on the golf course. Warner also said that he doesn’t have anything to announce as of now.
“No, I haven’t heard anything actually. I haven’t seen anything. I’ve been on the golf course. No, I don’t have an announcement. For me, it’s about trying to work hard in the nets, as I did today. Potentially come out tomorrow and, if selected, go out there and play and try and win an Ashes series,” Warner was quoted as saying by Sportskeeda.
I am playing at the 2024 World Cup: David Warner
Warner also talked about his previous announcement about retirement. He was asked if he will stick to his statement or change his mind to continue to play in the longest format. The left-hander said that he will be eligible to play well, and then he might continue to play, however, he didn’t give a direct answer.
“It depends. See how I go. You know, I have given the fact that I won’t play in West Indies, but if I still think I am eligible to keep playing and seeing the ball well, who knows? I am playing at the 2024 World Cup.
“I’ve always said, to be your best for white ball international cricket, you still have to be facing some sort of red cricket ball. Maybe I might play Shield cricket, but I am not sure. Okay, I won’t be playing any further than Pakistan. I won’t be playing the West Indies. Pakistan is definitely the end. You have my word. I promise you.” he added.
