Former Pakistan leg-spinner Danish Kaneria has slammed Ramiz Raja for accepting a commentary stint for the ODI World Cup 2023 in India. Apparently, during the Asia Cup 2023 hosting debacle, the latter was the PCB chairperson. For the unversed, the India and Pakistan Cricket Boards were tussling as far as hosting rights is concerned. PCB wanted to play the entire tournament, won by India last month in Pakistan.

On the other hand, the Indian Cricket Board wanted the tournament to be played at a neutral, at least in their games. In the end, both boards agreed after Najam Sethi took over from Raja last November. Meanwhile, ahead of the warm-up games for the tournament, the 1992 World Cup winner was one of the first ex-Pakistan cricketers to reach India and started commentary stints.

Ramiz Raja traveled to India for money: Danish Kaneria

The former Pakistan leggie took to his YouTube channel and criticized Raja for taking a U-turn.

“Ramiz Raja said Pakistan won’t travel to India for the World Cup, but he himself is doing commentary in India for money. He had made some bold claims. I believe when you make such statements, you should stick to your words. It is a matter of self-respect. If he had said that Pakistan wouldn’t go to India, he should have rejected the offer to do commentary. I didn’t like this U-turn.”

On the other hand, Kaneria praised India for the warm welcome of the Pakistan side for the ODI World Cup a few days back.

“Pakistan received a very warm welcome in India. This is our Hindu culture, and we believe in Atithi Devo Bhava. Whenever someone comes to our land, we always welcome them with open arms. We saw how fans were chanting for the likes of Babar Azam and Shaheen Afridi. It was a very wonderful gesture,” Kaneria said.
