In a surprising turn of events during the last Asia Cup 2023, Super 4 clash between India and Bangladesh in Colombo on Friday, September 15, Indian cricket fans witnessed their captain, Rohit Sharma, depart for an unexpected 2-ball duck. What made this dismissal even more remarkable was that it came at the hands of a debutant bowler of Bangladesh, Tanzim Hasan Sakib.

The contest was a dead rubber as Bangladesh are out of the tournament while India are qualified for the final already. However, Rohit’s early departure sent shockwaves through the Indian camp. Sakib, the 20-year-old sensation from Bangladesh, delivered a lethal opening over, getting the prized wicket of Rohit on just his second ball. It was a delivery that moved away from the batter, enticing Rohit into a tentative drive, only to find the toe-end of the bat safely caught by the fielder at the cover point.

Rohit’s dismissal for a 2–ball duck left the Indian team and fans stunned as he has been in incredible form in the tournament so far. He is India’s highest run-scorer of the tournament and getting out on a duck just ahead of the final match is surely a big concern for the team. This rare occurrence serves as a reminder of the unpredictability of cricket, where even the most accomplished players can find themselves on the wrong side of fortune on any given day.

Brilliant bowling performance by Tanzim Hasan Sakib

Interestingly, there was another player who was making his debut but for the Indian team. We are talking about Tilak Varma, the left-handed batter who didn’t have a great time during the first innings when he dropped a simple catch. However, there were many expectations when he came to bat.

But Tanzim delivered a jaffa to get rid of the left-handed batter leaving the Indian fans shocked. The Indian team are given a hard time chasing 265 runs, it would be interesting to see if they will continue their winning run or not ahead of the final against Sri Lanka on September 17.
