Chelsea has sacked head coach Thomas Tuchel six matches into the Premier League season.

The decision was taken after Chelsea fell to a 0-1 loss against Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League on Tuesday.

Here is the full statement released by the Chelsea Football Club :

On behalf of everyone at Chelsea FC, the Club would like to place on record its gratitude to Thomas and his staff for all their efforts during their time with the Club. Thomas will rightly have a place in Chelsea’s history after winning the Champions League, the Super Cup, and Club World Cup during his time here.

As the new ownership group reaches 100 days since taking over the Club, and as it continues its hard work to take the club forward, the new owners believe it is the right time to make this transition.

Chelsea’s coaching staff will take charge of the team for training and the preparation of our upcoming matches as the Club moves swiftly to appoint a new head coach.

“There will be no further comment until a new head coach appointment is made.”

The Club has lost two of its first six games in the Premier League.” the statement read

Chelsea was the highest-spending team in Europe during the transfer window with an outlay of nearly $300 million.

The club is expected to approach Brighton later on Wednesday for permission to speak to Graham Potter about their manager vacancy.

Who will replace Thomas Tuchel at Chelsea?

The Club is also keen to speak to Mauricio Pochettino and Zinedine Zidane, who are both out of work.

Tuchel said he was angry at himself for a ‘huge underperformance’ during the Dinamo Zagreb defeat – his final game in charge of the club – and suggested his side is currently lacking hunger and determination.

Thomas was fired by Chelsea after 100 games in charge of the west London outfit.

The loss against Dinamo Zagreb was Chelsea’s third defeat of the campaign.

Thomas Tuchel’s accomplishments at Chelsea

Tuchel was appointed as Chelsea manager in January 2021, replacing the sacked Frank Lampard less than a month after being relieved of his duties at Paris Saint-Germain.

He guided the club to a second Champions League triumph when they beat Manchester City in an all-English final in Porto and followed it up with Super Cup and Club World Cup successes.
The former Borussia Dortmund coach also led the Blues to two successive FA Cup finals and the Carabao Cup final.
