The race to secure a spot in the prestigious 2025 Champions Trophy was nothing short of a thrilling saga for some teams. As the cricketing world eagerly awaits the 2025 edition, the list of qualified teams has taken shape, with familiar powerhouses making the cut.

However, one notable absence from the lineup is Sri Lanka, whose journey in the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023 fell short of securing a coveted spot in the Champions Trophy. The eight confirmed teams for the 2025 Champions Trophy include cricket giants India, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and England.

These cricketing powerhouses have proven their mettle on the international stage, however, England were about to lose their spot in the tournament but their victories in the last 2 World Cup matches helped them to qualify. While the qualified teams bask in the glory of their success, Sri Lanka find itself on the other side of the spectrum, having failed to secure a spot in the top 8 during the ODI World Cup 2023.

Afghanistan to make its inaugural appearance in Champions Trophy

Sri Lanka’s journey, marked by moments of challenges, ultimately saw them fall short of the mark. The disappointment is visible, considering the nation’s cricketing legacy and the desire to be part of elite tournaments that showcase the best of the best on the global stage. They also suffered a huge setback as recently the Apex Cricket Council suspended the Sri Lankan Cricket Board due to which they are unable to play any major world tournament now.

Meanwhile, there is a new entry in the history of the Champions Trophy as Afghanistan are set to make its inaugural appearance in the tournament in 2025. Afghanistan’s qualification underscores the remarkable ascent of their cricketing prowess. The team’s journey from the grassroots to the global stage mirrors their resilience and dedication.

As they step onto the Champions Trophy platform, Afghan players carry the dreams of a nation, inspiring a new chapter in their cricketing narrative. The world awaits this debut with anticipation, recognizing the tournament’s role in fostering inclusivity and providing emerging cricketing nations like Afghanistan an opportunity to showcase their talent on an international stage.
