The Indian cricket fraternity resonated with joy and reverence as Bhagwan Ram, the revered deity, returned to his birthplace in Ayodhya after a hiatus of more than 500 years. The auspicious occasion was marked by the Pran Pratishtha ceremony on January 22, 2024, where Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi performed the pooja at the newly constructed Ram Mandir.

The Pran Pratishtha, or consecration ceremony, held immense significance as it marked the establishment of the idol of Ram Lalla, the childhood form of Lord Ram, on the temple premises. This momentous event followed the Supreme Court’s verdict in favour of the Ram Lalla Trust, acknowledging the presence of a temple on the disputed land before the Babri Mosque was demolished.

The historical context dates back to the 1560s when Mughal emperor Babar constructed a mosque at the site where an ancient Ram Mandir stood. The mosque, known as the Babri Mosque, faced demolition in 1992, leading to the discovery by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) of pillars and statues belonging to a temple beneath its structure. After years of legal battles, the construction of the Ram Mandir at the same spot was initiated.
