‘Cash in on opportunity’ – Fans react as Yashasvi Jaiswal gets perfect start in his debut match, scores 40 runs before stumps on Day 1
Indian openers Rohit Sharma and Yashavi Jaiswal provided a great start to India’s first innings in the 1st Test of the 2-match Test series against West Indies at Windsor Park in Dominica on Wednesday, July 12. West Indies won the toss and opted to bat first, but the Indian bowlers displayed a brilliant bowling performance and restricted the Windies to just 150 runs. India were on 80 without any loss at the end of Day 1.
Meanwhile, talking about Jaiswal, the 21-year-old left-hander impressed a lot of fans and cricket experts as he displayed a confident and decent batting performance in his debut Test match. Jaiswal has been performing consistently in domestic cricket and also played well in the recently concluded Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, however, he surprised everyone as he didn’t just go with lofted shots but also displayed his solid defence. Jaiswal is unbeaten on the score of 40 runs off 73 balls, which included 6 fours.
Jaiswal is very vibrant: Ravichandran Ashwin
Earlier, Batting first, West Indies displayed a horrible batting performance as they put up a total of only 150 runs and lost all their 10 wickets in 64.3 overs. No other batter except Alick Athanaze could provide anything to the scoreboard. Athanaze played a brilliant knock of 47 runs against the dangerous-looking spin duo of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja.
Ashwin bowled really well and got his 33rd fifer in the longest format. The no. 1 Test bowler bowled 24.3 overs and got 5 wickets after conceding 60 runs. However, at the end of the day, Ashwin lauded Jaiswal for his brilliant batting display and said that he is very vibrant and is hoping that he goes far from here and makes a big score for himself.
“He just reverse-swept the first ball of the last over! That’s what you can expect from him. He is very vibrant, hope he goes far. From our side, we hope to keep the environment good for him,” Ashwin said while talking about Jaiswal.
Here’s how fans reacted:
Yashasvi Jaiswal should make full use of opportunity, play like this series is going to be his last Series, he should know he won't be getting any more opportunities if he fails unlike overrated mahamediocres like Ashwin & Jadeja who kept getting loads of opportunities #WIvIND

Good beginning #YashasviJaiswal
Hopefully he will remain hungry for success and don't turn into woke cricketer on the lines of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli

Introduction of @ybj_19 in the Test can be very handy in coming years if he continues to perform well. India needs a talented left hand batter after @GautamGambhir to serve the cricket for atleast 1 decade & Yashasvi Jaiswal is a good choice. Best wishes Champion 👍 pic.twitter.com/4lzD3otjpt
