India and West Indies clashed against each other in the 2nd ODI of the 3-match ODI series at Kensington Oval in Barbados on Saturday, July 29. One would have anticipated India will win this ODI series by a 3-0 margin, but that isn’t going to be the case as West Indies have bounced back in style and leveled the series 1-1.

Talking about the match, West Indies won the toss and opted to bowl first. But the decision didn’t work initially as Indian openers Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan stitched a 90-run stand for the first wicket. Kishan made full use of the opportunity given and smashed his 2nd consecutive half-century of the series.

He scored 55 runs which included 6 fours and 1 six while Gill scored 34 runs which included 5 fours. However, the Windies bowlers bounced back as the Indian middle-order collapsed horribly and India ended up scoring just 181 runs in the first innings. The Caribbean side were brilliant on the field as they displayed some tremendous fielding effort.

We got one win, got to win the next game: Shai Hope

Chasing the target, West Indies openers Brandon King and Kyle Mayers started really well and stitched a 53-run partnership for the first wicket. However, Shardul Thakur dismissed both the openers in a couple of deliveries but that wasn’t just enough as Windies’ middle-order batters Shai Hope and Keacy Carty displayed a magnificent batting performance.

Hope played an outstanding knock of 63 runs which included 2 fours and as many sixes while Carty scored 48 runs which included 4 fours. Both stitched a 91-run unbeaten partnership to help the team win the match by 6 wickets. Hope talked about his knock and the win in the post-match presentation.

“I am happy, when I get a fifty, when I get a hundred, and when the team wins. You got to find ways to score quickly on that wicket, especially against a quality bowling attack like India. Very satisfied. We got one win, got to win the next game to take the series. The guys are going to come hard again.” Hope said.
