Pakistan pacer Naseem Shah had to use his willow to win the second ODI against Afghanistan in Hambantota. Batting first, the Blue Brigade amassed 300/5 at the end of the first innings. They had a great start as openers, Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran put together 227 for the first wicket. The partnership came in at just 39.5 overs.

Zadran scored 80 runs while Gurbaz got to 151 runs. After their wickets, the team lost its way and was restricted to 300. At one stage, the Afghans looked like getting to 340-350 runs at the end of the innings. Talking about the opening partnership, it was the highest opening partnership for Afghanistan against Pakistan. In reply, the Green Brigade had a decent start as Fakhar Zaman (30) and Imam-ul-Haq put together 52 runs for the first wicket.

After the former’s wicket, the likes of Haq and skipper Babar Azam put together 118 runs. At 170/1, the team looked like winning the game easily. However, from 170/1, the team kept losing wickets and was reduced to 211/6. At the stage, it looked like the typical Pakistani implosion in a chasing cause. However, the likes of Shadab Khan and Iftikhar Ahmed kept the team in the game although they got in the end.

The last pair of Naseem Shah and Haris Rauf took the team over the line with the former hitting two fours in the last over. In the end, the team won the game by one wicket.

Naseem Shah did the same in the Asia Cup 2022

The right-arm pacer also won the game of the T20 Asia Cup 2022. In the game, Pakistan had to chase 130-odd runs. With 12 runs left to win, the Green Brigade had only one wicket left. In the last over, Shah hit two sixes against Fazalhaq Farooqi to win the thriller. This helped them qualify for the final but lost to Sri Lanka in the summit clash.
