It was a day to remember for the Afghanistan team as they registered their biggest in cricket. The Afghanistan side beat England by 69 runs to open their account in the ODI World Cup 2023. This win meant that Australia now occupied the last place in the table which was unfathomable when the tournament began.

This was Afghanistan’s second ever World Cup win their first win came against Scotland during the 2015 tournament. With Australia now in the last place, there is massive shock as regarding the form of the five-time World Cup winners.

Defending champions England are also under pressure after losing their second game of the tournament. New Zealand had beaten England to start the ODI World Cup 2023 campaign. England then beat Bangladesh in Dharamshala by 137 runs to register their first win.

Australia drops to last place in the table –

England’s loss to Afghanistan on Sunday has heaped pressure on two teams. This result has left Australia at the bottom of the table with two losses in two games of the ODI World Cup 2023.

The Australians began with a game against India last Sunday in Chennai. Chasing 200 to win, India was struggling at 2/3 with the Indian top three out for a duck. KL Rahul and Virat Kohli then added 165 runs for the 4th wicket to steer India to an easy win.

Virat Kohli was out for 85, as KL Rahul with 97 not out saw the Indian team home. Australia’s next game was against South Africa in Lucknow. The five-time winners lost the game by a massive margin of 134 runs.

The next game for Pat Cummins and his side is against Sri Lanka on Monday in Lucknow. This has now become a make-or-break game for both teams as even Sri Lanka has lost their opening two games of the ODI World Cup 2023 campaign.

After Sri Lanka, the Australians will travel to Bangalore to take on Pakistan on the 20th of October. After the Chennai game, it is the game against the Netherlands in New Delhi followed by a meeting with New Zealand. The key game against England will happen on the 4th of November before Australia takes on Afghanistan and Bangladesh.
