BBL: Perth Scorchers qualify for the final

Both the openers scored superb half-centuries for Perth before the bowlers demolished the Sydney Sixers batting lineup.

Sydney Sixers were 7 down on just 55 runs but the Number 9 batter, Ben Dwarshuis scored 66 runs from just 27 balls to rescue his side from getting bowled out under the three figures in a Qualifier game.

The tournament favorites, Perth Scorchers qualified for the BBL final after beating the Sydney Sixers by 49 runs at the Docklands Stadium.

In the Qualifier match between the top two placed sides who have shared six trophies of BBL between them so far, Perth Scorchers produced a wonderful performance to confirm a spot in the Final on 28th January, which will be played at the same venue.

The two-time defending champions, Sydney Sixers was outclassed in this match by the Perth Scorchers.

The Sydney Sixers still have a chance to qualify into the Final as they will face the winner of the 2nd Eliminator match that will be played between Sydney Thunder and Adelaide Strikers.

Thus, the Sixers’ dream for a historic hat-trick of trophies depends upon their match on Wednesday against the winner of the Sydney Thunder and Adelaide Strikers match. 

Inglis and Patterson thrashed the Sixers

The openers gave an ideal start to Perth Scorchers in the all-important Qualifier game.

Josh Inglis and Kurtis Patterson shared an excellent stand of 120 runs for the first wicket that came to an end in the 13th over when Patterson got caught out at long-on. 

Josh Inglis was having a very bad BBL season this year as his highest score was even just 23 runs from six games but he came back in form at the right time for his side.

He smashed a brilliant knock of 79 runs off just 49 balls, including 9 fours and a six.

His partner Kurtis Patterson also scored a brilliant half-century. Patterson played an aggressive knock of 64 runs off just 41 balls.

His inning included 5 fours and 3 superb sixes. 

After Patterson’s dismissal, Josh Inglis took over and opened his arms by smashing a splendid reverse-paddle for four off the seamer, Hayden Kerr.

It meant Perth Scorchers only needed a quick little cameo from the T20 world cup hero, Mitchell Marsh, who scored 28 runs from 21 balls in the end.

Perth Scorchers scored 188 with the loss of just 3 wickets from the 20 overs. 

Bowlers shine for Scorchers

Jhye Richardson shines with the bowl on his debut match in this season of the Big Bash League.

Richardson came back into his side after playing the Ashes series for Australia.

He picked up 2 wickets for just 21 runs from his 4 overs.

He claimed the huge wicket of Josh Philippe in his first over of the innings.

Behrendorff also bowled brilliantly as he picked up 2 wickets within the first 3 overs of the innings.

Ashton Agar then joined the party and he also picked up 2 crucial wickets of Nicholas Bertus and Dan Christian in his spell. 

The Sydney Sixers were 7 down on just 55 runs in the first 12 overs and they were on the verge of getting all-out before the 100 run mark.

But Ben Dwarshuis played an outstanding inning of 66 runs after coming into bat on the 9th number.

He used only 28 balls for his 66 runs which included 7 fours and 4 sixes.

All the Scorchers bowlers picked up 2 wickets each except Peter Hatzoglou who claimed a single wicket.

Sydney Sixers got all-out on just 141 runs and lost the match by 48 runs.
