In a thrilling Spanish Super Cup final, Barcelona overcame an early setback to defeat Real Madrid 5-2. Kylian Mbappé opened the scoring for Madrid in the 5th minute. However, Barcelona responded decisively.

Lamine Yamal equalized in the 22nd minute. Subsequently, Robert Lewandowski converted a penalty in the 36th minute, giving Barcelona the lead. Raphinha extended the advantage with a header in the 39th minute. Alejandro Balde added a fourth goal during first-half stoppage time. This dominant first-half performance left Real Madrid trailing 4-1 at halftime.

Early in the second half, Raphinha scored his second goal, making it 5-1. Despite Barcelona goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny receiving a red card in the 56th minute for a foul on Mbappé, Real Madrid managed only one more goal. Rodrygo scored from the resulting free-kick, bringing the score to 5-2. Even with a numerical advantage, Madrid couldn’t mount a comeback.

This victory marks Barcelona’s first trophy under manager Hansi Flick. It also extends their record to 15 Spanish Super Cup titles. Notably, Barcelona has now scored at least four goals in consecutive El Clásico matches, a feat last achieved by Real Madrid in 1963.

Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti expressed disappointment, stating, “In the first half we didn’t play football; we hit long balls, and that wasn’t the idea.”

Barcelona’s clinical performance underscores their resurgence and intent to challenge for more silverware this season. Meanwhile, Real Madrid will need to reassess and address the shortcomings exposed in this high-profile defeat.
