CPL 2021: Barbados outplay Tallawahs
Barbados Royals were on a roll in the game against Jamaica Tallawahs as they got another win under their belt on Sunday.
Jason Holder’s men were just 15 runs better than Rovman Powell’s unit.
Batting first, the Royals scored 161/5 on a tricky pitch.
Good bowling and alert fielding helped them in the second innings as they restricted the Tallawahs to only 146/9.
Reifer’s all-round takes Royals home
Raymon Reifer ran riot in the game as everything he touched turn to gold.
After putting up a crucial 31 with the bat off 20 balls that included two big sixes and a couple of fours, the West Indian star picked three wickets as well.
The scalps he pocketed were of some of the biggest strikers in the franchise cricket – Kennar Lewis, Carlos Brathwaite and Andre Russell.
He was declared Player of the Match for his match-winning display in both innings.
Amir-Walsh duo contains Tallawahs
Mohammad Amir has been enjoying his time in franchise cricket ever since he announced a withdrawal from the national side.
The left-arm pacer has added another commendable performance to his resume.
He gave away only 23 runs and picked two wickets in his quota of four overs to make the chase even harder for Powell’s men.
While Hayden Walsh did not pick any wicket, he kept the economy tight (5.7) to mount pressure on the opposition.
Thisara Perera also grabbed two scalps to his name in the two overs he bowled.
Barbados Royals 161 for 5 (Phillips 56*, Reifer 31*, Permaul 2-15) beat Jamaica Tallawahs 146 for 9 (Brooks 47, Reifer 3-31, Perera 2-17) by 15 runs.
Riaz helps St. Lucia Kings win
Lucia Kings won a game from the jaws of defeat against Trinbago Knight Riders on Sunday. Courtesy a great last over by Wahab Riaz, the Kings won by 5 runs.
From being a zero in the last game, to a hero in this clash, Wahab Riaz showed the cricket fans how important is his role in the side.
The Pakistan pacer got the crucial wicket of Riders skipper Kieron Pollard and gave away only 17 runs in three overs.
Most importantly, he withstood Colin Munro (40*) and Tim Seifert (40*) in the final over.
He defended the 14 runs needed in the penultimate over for the Riders to achieve the 158-run target.
Seifert was striking the ball sweeter than his partner Munro, but Riaz did not them walk away with the won.
He conceded only a single boundary (four) and defended six runs on the last ball against in-form Seifert.
Kings captain Faf du Plessis hailed Riaz for his performance. He revealed that he was feeling like reserving the 19th over for Riaz earlier.
“We thought about Wahab’s experience bowling the second-last over but we were worried about the short boundary from that end,” Du Plessis said.
David continues good form
Tim David’s ride in franchise cricket has been sublime so far.
After making a big impact with Lahore Qalandars in the Pakistan Super League, he is helping the Kings make it big in the CPL.
The Singaporean-Australian cricketer smashed 43 off 32 to propel the Kings to a respectable score before Seales dismissed him.
St Lucia Kings 157 for 5 (David 43, Chase 30*, Rampaul 3-29) beat Trinbago Knight Riders 152 for 3 (Seifert 40*, Munro 40*, Wahab 1-17, Chase 1-17) by five runs.
