The world of cricket is no stranger to debates and controversies, and the latest one involves Pakistan’s cricket team captain, Babar Azam, and former pacer Mohammad Asif. Babar will be arriving in India on September 27 to take part in the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023.

Asif, known for his outspoken nature, made claims that he could bowl a maiden over to Babar even today and was also critical of Babar’s strike rate, suggesting that he could be contained easily if bowled well. Asif said that Babar is one of the best batters in the country but plays a lot of dot balls and puts pressure on Mohammad Rizwan.

“I selected Babar Azam in the trials after he faced two balls only, you can ask his father that I picked Babar in ZTBL trials. I rate highly, he is one of the best batters in the country but he plays dots in the power-play and puts pressure on Rizwan. I can bowl a maiden over to Babar Azam in T20 cricket even today, he cannot hit the ball if you bowl good deliveries to him,” Asif was quoted as saying by Crickettimes.

Every individual is responsible for their actions: Babar Azam’s father

However, instead of fueling a potential war of words, Babar’s father, Azam Siddiqui, responded with elegance on his Instagram handle. In a remarkable display of sportsmanship, he said that Babar would wholeheartedly play a maiden over against him to show him respect.

“Dear Mr. Mohammad Asif, every individual is responsible for their actions. If such a time comes, Babar will gladly play a maiden over against you in order to show you respect” he said.

This graceful response from Babar Azam’s father not only highlights the family’s humility but also serves as a reminder of the respect and camaraderie that cricket fosters. While debates in cricket are common, it is heartening to witness individuals like Azam Siddiqui choosing a dignified path to address them.
