After leading Pakistan to a 3-0 victory in the recently concluded T20I series against Afghanistan, Babar Azam is enjoying a much-needed break ahead of the premier Asian cricket tournament. The Men in Green will take on Nepal at the Multan Cricket Stadium in the opening match of the 2023 Asia Cup, jointly hosted by Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

On Monday, August 28, the Pakistan skipper took to his social media handle to reveal his new friend. Dressed in a trendy outfit, wearing a cap, an orange t-shirt and a pair of light blue jeans, Babar posted a picture of himself sitting beside a cat. The adorable picture of the cricketer gently petting the cat was accompanied by the caption, “Made a new friend yesterday”, followed by a laughing emoji.

Ahead of the high-intensity tournament, Babar showed his softer side to his fans and they absolutely loved it. The picture posted on the X platform (formerly known as Twitter) has received an overwhelming response from fans as they see their favourite cricketer with his new friend. One of Babar’s true supporters jokingly wrote that the cat was lucky to be sitting next to the world’s best ODI batsman. “A Lucky Cat With World NO 1 ODI BATSMAN,” the tweet read.

Babar led his team from the front not only with the mastermind in the Afghanistan series but also with the bat. The right-hander was dismissed for a duck by Mujeeb Ur Rahman in the opening game, but he played a captain’s knock in the second ODI, hammering a half-century in Pakistan’s narrow victory. He continued his form in the final game as he scored back-to-back fifties (60 off 86 balls) and helped his side to whitewash the series.

Babar and Co. will be entering the Asia Cup as the world’s number-one-ranked ODI team. After the encounter with Nepal, they will go for a blockbuster clash with India in Kandy on September 2.
