Asia Cup 2023 schedule: All you need to know about matches, dates, timings, venues
After a long dispute between the Indian Cricket Board and Pakistan Cricket Board over Asia Cup 2023 came to an end, the fans are now waiting for the thrilling multi-nation tournament. The dispute was going on for almost a year after India refused to travel to Pakistan due to security reasons. However, recently, it was decided that the tournament will be co-hosted by Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
Meanwhile, the schedule for the much-awaited Asia Cup 2023 has been revealed. India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Nepal will clash against each other in 13 ODI matches. The first match of the tournament will be played between Pakistan and Nepal on August 30 in Multan, Pakistan.
There will be two groups in the tournament, the first group consists of India, Pakistan, and Nepal while the second group consists of Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan. However, the fans are waiting for the clash between the arch-rivals India and Pakistan which will take place on September 2 in Kandy, Sri Lanka.
Can Sri Lanka defend their Asia Cup title?
India will play their 2nd and last group match against Nepal on the same ground on September 4. 2 teams will qualify from each group which will later clash against each other in the ‘Super 4s’. Only 1 match of the Super 4 will be played in Pakistan while the rest of the matches of the Super 4 will be hosted by Sri Lanka which means that Pakistan will host a total number of 4 matches while Sri Lanka will host 9 matches.
Sri Lanka are the defending champions of the Asia Cup as they defeated the Men in Green in the final match, however, the tournament was played in the T20 format in 2022. But this time it will be played in the 50-over format and it’d be interesting to see if Sri Lanka can retain the trophy or any other team will get their hand on it.
