In the ongoing Chile tour of Argentina, the home side became the first team across men’s and women’s T20I cricket to score 400 runs. In the first T20I between the Southern American side and Chile, the visitors won the toss and elected to field first. The decision didn’t just prove wrong instead it became a catastrophic one.

Apparently, Argentina openers, Lucia Taylor and Albertina Galan put together 350 runs for the first wicket. This is the highest partnership for the first wicket, breaking the record of 257 by Indonesia’s K Winda Prastini and Y Angrraeni in December 2019. The likes of Taylor and Galan started the powerplay with 100 runs. For the first 10 overs, the Blue Brigade amassed 173/0 and didn’t look like getting the 400-run mark.

However, it was still a madness given these things don’t happen in cricket very often. In the last 10 overs, almost every over garnered more than 20 runs, losing only one wicket. After the fall of the first wicket, the team had 352/1 in 17 overs. Maria Castinerias came in and hit 16-ball 40 runs to help the team reach a record total of 427/1. Talking about Taylor, she amassed 169 runs off 84 balls including 27 fours.

On the other hand, Galan hit 145 runs off 84 balls including 23 fours. Maria scored seven fours. Notably, despite the most explosive T20I innings by a team, not even a single six was hit during the innings. Jessica Miranda from Chile was the only wicket-taker.

Argentina registered a win by the highest margin

In reply, the visitors were never in the chase, given they were chasing more than 20 runs per over from the onset. Meanwhile, they kept losing wickets, and Miranda (27) was the only player to get past the double-digit mark. They were bowled out for 63 runs, losing the game by 364 runs. With this, Argentina became the second team to win a T20I game by more than 300 runs. In 2019, Uganda won by 304 against Mali
