Amid the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023, former Pakistan cricketer Mohammad Hafeez found himself in a controversy. After criticising star India batter Virat Kohli for his 49th ODI century against South Africa, Hafeez has been criticised by fans and cricket pundits. Meanwhile, former England skipper Michael Vaughan has launched a series of attacks on him for his comments.

However, Hafeez is also not pulling things back, as he launched a new indirect attack on Vaughan on Thursday. Taking up his social media account, Hafeez said, “Talk sense to a fool, and he calls you foolish.” It’s worth noting that both Vaughan and Hafeez have been bantering for the last few days. This all started after Hafeez called Kohli a selfish player. He accused him of playing for his milestones rather than for the team.

He had said, “I noticed a selfish approach in Virat Kohli’s batting, and this isn’t the first occurrence in this World Cup. In the 49th over, he aimed to secure a single to achieve his personal hundred, neglecting the team’s priorities. Rohit Sharma had the option to play selfishly as well, but he chose not to because he plays for Team India, not just for himself.”

Mohammad Hafeez compared Ben Stokes with Virat Kohli

A day after that, Hafeez compared star England all-rounder Ben Stokes’ tonne against the Netherlands with Kohli’s innings. He said, “Saviour of the ship, @benstokes38. Good under pressure, anchoring the innings where required with aggressive intent to get maximum runs for the team to win at the end. Sheer example to differentiate selfish vs. selfless approach.”

These comments triggered Vaughan to share a video clip of Hafeez’s dismissal from the T20I World Cup 2012. While playing against India, he was dismissed by Virat Kohli. Vaughan termed it the reason behind Hafeez’s critical comments on Virat Kohli. He also asked Hafeez to clarify it. However, it’s worth noting that Kohli has levelled great batter Sachin Tendulkar’s record of most ODI hundreds. He will look to break it in upcoming matches.
