‘Are bhai ab roke kya fayda’ – Fans react as Angelo Mathews provides proofs after his controversial timed out dismissal
In the 2023 ODI World Cup match between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, an unusual and controversial incident occurred which had never happened in the history of international cricket. Angelo Mathews, a veteran all-rounder from Sri Lanka, made history by becoming the first player ever to get ‘timed out’. This rule had previously only been applied in first-class cricket, making it an unexpected turn of events for many cricket fans and experts.
The incident unfolded during the 25th over of the first innings at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Monday, November 6. Mathews, who was the incoming batter, was late to enter the field and commence the game. In response to this delay, Bangladesh‘s skipper, Shakib Al Hasan, appealed for Mathews’ wicket, leading the on-field umpires to raise their index fingers and declare Mathews timed out.
Angelo Mathews came up with few evidences
However, Mathews has recently claimed that he emerged onto the field within a mere two-minute timeframe, directly conflicting with the views of the fourth umpire. Additionally, he has also presented compelling evidence to support his claim that he was prepared to take his batting stance well before the helmet strap issue arose.
4th umpire is wrong here! Video evidence shows I still had 5 more seconds even after the helmet gave away! Can the 4th umpire rectify this please? I mean safety is paramount as I just couldn’t face the bowler without a helmet

A day later, the star all-rounder again came up with another evidence and this time he posted a video which was broadcast by Star Sports in which it is clearly visible that Mathews was at the crease within the 2-minute time frame. He posted the video with the caption, “I rest my case! Here you go you decide.”
