On December 26, 2024, India lost its former Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh. Tributes poured in from all across the nation, including from actor Anupam Kher. Kher shared his emotional remembrance of Dr. Singh on social media.
Anupam Kher portrayed Dr. Manmohan Singh in The Accidental Prime Minister. Kher admitted that he initially hesitated to take on the role. He feared his portrayal might be misunderstood. “Mujhe laga ki main ye role karunga toh log kahengi ki shayad maine unka ye mazak karne ke liye film ki hai,” Kher said. He expressed concerns that the film could have been seen as a mockery of Dr. Singh.
Kher explained that playing the role was not easy. While the physical aspects were achievable, he didn’t want to make a caricature of Dr. Singh’s personality. The actor mentioned how the role required deep study and respect. Over a year of preparation for the movie, Kher felt a strong connection to the late leader.
In his tribute, Kher described Dr. Manmohan Singh as a humble and honest man. He wrote, “He was inherently a good man, a great economist, and completely honest.” Despite his humble nature, some questioned his political acumen. Kher, however, praised his character and integrity.
Anupam Kher extended his condolences to Dr. Singh’s family. His post concluded with “Om Shanti,” expressing his respect for the former PM’s legacy.
On the professional front, Anupam Kher was last seen in Vijay 69. He is now preparing for his upcoming film Emergency.
