In the 5th Test of the Ashes series, Australian captain Pat Cumminsinjured his wrist due to which he had to take some treatments for the recovery. Due to this, he will not be seen playing the initial matches of the ODI series against South Africa. However, despite being injured on the first day of the Oval Test, Cummins continued to play in that match.

Regarding Cummins’s injury, it was reported that it would take about 6 weeks for him to recover completely. In such a situation, everyone was expecting Cummins to return in the ODI series against South Africa. This series will be played from 7th September to 17th September. But it is being heard that Cummins will be fully fit for the series against India just before the World Cup. He recently shared some updates about his injury.

“It’s not too bad. I’ll head over to South Africa at the back end of that leg, but we’re probably looking more at those one-dayers ahead of the World Cup. It shouldn’t be too bad. Another few weeks and it’ll be right. I’ll keep it in a brace for a few weeks and it’ll be fine.” Cummins was quoted as saying by Sportskeeda.

The captaincy for the ODIs has been kind of shared: Pat Cummins

Cummins also talked about his future in the ODI format and said that he will play the upcoming World Cup first. He said the captaincy in the ODI format was shared by few players so it is too soon to say if there is one particular player who can replace him as the captain in the ODI format.

“I haven‘t thought about it too much to be honest. We’ll play this World Cup and then assess it after that. The captaincy for the ODIs has been kind of shared around a little bit. Smithy‘s done a couple, Joshy Hazlewood’s done one, Mitchy’s there, Alex Carey’s there as well, so I think we’ll get over there, have a look at that.” he said

“The good thing is we’ve got a few options. (Marsh) is probably the most obvious one if he’s doing the T20s as well. I wouldn’t be surprised with the number of ODIs before the World Cup whether some guys might miss a game as well. If Mitchy misses one, someone else might step up,” Pat Cummins added
