A new wave has emerged in Pakistan cricket as their key coaches have all signed up for their jobs. The head coach, the batting coach, and the mentor have stepped down from their roles following the bad performance of Pakistan in the away tours after the ODI World Cup 2023. It might be unfortunate for Pakistan given the change in the dynamics and the change in roles.

Pakistan selected new coaches for their board after the bad performance of the side in the ODI WC 2023. Andrew Puttick was appointed the mentor of Pakistan. Grant Badburn and Mickey Arthur were named the batting and head coaches respectively. The move from the board came in order to help their side stay in the game after a bad campaign in the ODI WC 2023.

The three were selected to help Pakistan from the ODI WC 2023 till the T20 World Cup 2024. Now that Pakistan’s schedule in the away tours have ended, the three have resigned from their roles. The new coaches are to take forward Pakistan in the upcoming days. Pakistan has not been able to get good leadership in terms of coaching and captaincy in the last few years.

‘The decision was taken amicably between all the stakeholders’ – Pakistan Cricket Board

The recent past has not been great. Pakistan did not even qualify for the final of the Asia Cup 2023. They had a poor performance in the ODI WC 2023 where they lost to Afghanistan. Against Australia, Pakistan lost the Test series by a margin of 3-0. In the ongoing T20I against New Zealand, Pakistan have lost it with 2 games to go. It has not gone well with their fans.

The decision of the three coaches to step down was confirmed by a press release from the Pakistan cricket board. “All three individuals informed the Pakistan Cricket Board of their decision to leave their respective jobs by the end of January 2024. The decision was taken amicably between all the stakeholders,” claimed the statement of the board. Pakistan would be hoping to end their tour of NZ on a high by winning the last 2 T20Is.
