‘Aise players ko ye WTC me drop kardete hain’ – Fans hail Ravichandran Ashwin’s gets his 33rd fifer in Tests during 1st Test against West Indies
The first Test of the 2-match Test series between India and West Indies kicked off on Wednesday, July 12 at Windsor Park in Dominica. The Indian team lost the toss but still got the game in their favour on Day 1. Asked to bowl first, Indian bowlers displayed a brilliant performance and bundled out the Windies team on a score of just 150 runs.
Meanwhile, India’s veteran off-spinner and no. 1 ranked Test bowler in the world Ravichandran Ashwin put up a magnificent performance with the ball and got his 33rd fifer in the longest format. Ashwin, who was dropped from India’s WTC 2023 final team, proved how important he is for the team in Tests.
There was a bit of moisture on the pitch: R Ashwin
Talking about the match, Indian bowlers didn’t let the Windies’ batter settle on the pitch and got wickets at regular intervals of time. Apart from Aswhin, Ravindra Jadeja also picked up 3 wickets. Alick Athanaze was the only batter who looked confident as he scored 47 runs. Coming to bat, Indian openers Rohit Sharma and Yashavi Jaiswal provided a perfect start to the team as at the end of Day 1 both have stitched a 80-run stand for the 1st wicket. Meanwhile, Ashwin talked about his performance in the post-day interview.
“Thought it was a pretty good performance. There was a bit of moisture on the pitch earlier but it started to spin later. Saw on the TV as well that it turned more later. Had to adapt early. It was a bit dry, have to get the pace right to trouble the batsmen. International cricket is all about adapting to different conditions.
“With so many leagues around, we can get carried away with a few performances in these leagues but international cricket is different. Jaiswal is a vibrant cricketer, extremely talented. I hope he goes on to do great things in his career. I think we’re going to see some special performances from him,” Ashwin was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.
