Afghanistan Cricket Board has punished three of its cricketers for choosing franchise cricket over national duty. The likes of Fazalhaq Farooqi, Naveen-Ul-Haq, and Mujeeb-Ur-Rahman are banned from playing in franchise cricket for 2 years. The move came from the board of Afghanistan, as the three cricketers asked the board to release them from the central contract to take part in franchise cricket.

Afghanistan Cricket Board wrote in its statement regarding the decision and revealed the ban on cricketers. In its statement, the board revealed that the cricketers had asked them for release from the national contract, as a result of which the ban was handed to them. The board wrote that the move from the three was against the core values and principles of Afghanistan cricket.

“The decision by the Afghanistan Cricket Board is made with a focus on national priorities, aligned with the ACB’s core values and principles,” wrote the board in its statement. It was further added that every player who plays for the board must maintain the principles of the board and prioritize the national interest over personal interests. These players will not get NOC for their upcoming contracts.

Is NOC available for IPL 2024?

“It highlights the necessity for every player to maintain the ACB’s principles and prioritize the country’s interests above their personal ones,” added the statement of the board. It raises the question over their participation in the IPL 2024. All the three players are a part of the IPL franchises. Mujeeb Ur Rahman was picked by KKR in the IPL mini auction 2024. The other two cricketers are already a part of the IPL sides.

Fazalhaq is a part of SRH and Naveen an integral part of LSG. There has been a doubt over their participation in the IPL 2024. If Afghanistan denies giving them the NOC to take part in the league, things might get difficult for the individuals and the IPL teams. In the upcoming days, the verdict of the board on the same would lead to interesting dynamics between several groups and individuals.
