India’s domestic Cricket star Sarfaraz Khan has been added as the replacement for KL Rahul in the Indian squad for the rest of the Test series against England. Rahul got injured while playing in the first Test against England at Hyderabad. Rahul injured his right quadriceps while playing in the 1st Test. After the scans, the injury seemed a bit serious. Hence, Rahul has been ruled out of the rest of the series against England.

The Indian Cricket Board held a media advisory and announced the news. “Mr Ravindra Jadeja and Mr KL Rahul have been ruled out of the second IDFC First Bank Test against England in Vizag, starting February 02, 2024. Jadeja sustained a hamstring injury during play on Day 4 of the first Test in Hyderabad while Rahul complained of a right quadriceps pain,” said the Indian board in their statement.

After that, the board announced the replacements of the players in the team. Three players were announced as the replacements of the two injured players in the side. Sourabh Kumar, Sarfaraz Khan, and Washington Sundar are declared their replacements respectively. “The Men’s Selection Committee have added Sarfaraz Khan, Sourabh Kumar and Washington Sundar to India’s squad,” added the Indian board in their statement.

Sarfaraz Khan has done all the hard yards to command a place in the Indian side. The talented batter has scored truckloads of runs for Mumbai in first-class cricket over the years. In the last 3-4 seasons, Khan has been in a terrific form. The Mumbai batter is capable of playing long innings and can save the side from collapses as well. He might be the replacement for Ajinkya Rahane in the long run.

Sarfaraz has played 66 innings in FC cricket. In as many appearances, Khan has scored 3912 runs at a stunning batting average of 69.85. His average is one of the best for a batter from India. Khan has 14 hundreds and 11 fifty-plus scores to his name in the domestic format. Sarfaraz has a good conversion rate, which is very important in the longest format of the game.
