Pakistan skipper Babar Azam is yet to get past the double-digit figures with the bat in the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023. In the Green Brigade’s first game against the Netherlands, he managed only five runs after playing 18 balls. During his excruciatingly slow innings, the likes of Aryan Dutt and Colin Ackerman kept him quiet. The latter eventually took the wicket of the Pakistan skipper.

In the ongoing game, the 2017 Champions Trophy winner got 10 runs but was caught down the leg side facing Dilshan Madushanka. With this, the team is in a difficult situation as they have lost two wickets for 37 runs. The first one to fall for was Imam-ul-Haq, whose dismissal was identical to the one against the Dutch, i.e. caught at deep fine leg.

Talking about the game, the likes of opening batter Abdullah Shafique and wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan are batting at the crease and have put together 50 runs for the third wicket. The 1992 winners need to chase 345 runs. They have never chased a target of more than 250-odd in ODI WCs.

Babar Azam had decent outings during warm-up games

The right-hander had a decent outing during two warm-up games in a build-up to the tournament. Against New Zealand, he scored an 80-odd while he batted aggressively against Australia on his way to 90 before retiring out. However, till now, the Punjab player is yet to hit more than 10 runs in a single innings.

While the Lankan Lions are on top of the ongoing game, they needed to defend 250 in 32 overs or take eight more wickets to win their first-ever ODI World Cup game against Pakistan. In the seven games played between both teams so far, the Green Brigade has won all of them. After this game, the former champions, Pakistan will play their big game against arch-rivals, India on October 14 in Ahmedabad.

This game is expected to be the most-watched around the globe on the day.
