Alcaraz won his first Wimbledon championship on Sunday by defeating Novak Djokovic in a nail-biting five-set match. The game was won by the world’s top player 1-6, 7-6 (8/6), 6-1, 3-6, 6-4. Djokovic commanded the stage early on at the Centre Court in London, winning the opening set 6-1.

Alcaraz recovered admirably in the second set, which ended in a tiebreaker. It was won 7-6 (8/6) by the world’s best player. The Spaniard won the third set 6-1 as he continued to dominate. However, Djokovic too had a stunning comeback and won the fourth set 6-3 to advance the match to the decisive set. In the deciding set, Alcaraz broke Djokovic once, which aided him in winning.

Carlos Alcaraz’s inspiring journey

Alcaraz was born on May 5, 2003, in the Spanish hamlet of El Palmar. Alcaraz learned how to play tennis at his father’s training centre. He has won numerous championships in Spain and Europe. When Alcaraz was about 16 years old, he defeated Ramos Vinolas and won his first ATP match. His trainer is Juan Carlos Ferrero, a former world number-one player. Since she was fifteen years old, Ferrero has been employed by him.

Alcaraz is the fourth player from Spain to hold the top spot in the ATP rankings. Rafael Nadal, Carlos Moya, and his coach Juan Carlos Ferrero all previously held this position. Alcaraz had already defeated Djokovic in an ATP match, though. He had already defeated Djokovic in the Madrid Open semifinals. Alcaraz and Djokovic have faced off in a total of three matches, with Alcaraz holding a 2-1 advantage.
