Former India opening batter Virender Sehwag has picked Rohit Sharma to be the leading run-getter in the ODI World Cup 2023. The latter will lead the team for the first time in ODI World Cups. Sharma played his first ODI WC game in 2015. Meanwhile, the two-time World Cup winner, Sehwag has said that Sharma will be the leading run-getter during the tournament

“If I were to pick one [leading run-scorer], Rohit Sharma. There are a couple of names, but you know I’m Indian and I should pick Indian. So Rohit Sharma, because when the World Cup comes, his energy level, his performance goes up.”

“This time he’s the captain also, so I’m sure he will make the difference and score a lot of runs.”

Rohit Sharma was the leading run-getter in the 2019 World Cup too

The current India skipper was the leading run-getter with 648 runs in 10 games with five hundreds. The Men In Blue reached the semis and were the favorites the win the game against New Zealand. However, after getting to 239, the Blackcaps managed to win the game. In that game, Sharma couldn’t carry the form he had during the league stage.

This time around, India will look to win the tournament as they are hosting it. However, it won’t be easy as the middle-order is quite inexperienced. Also, the tail might go long in their strategy to have wicket-taking bowlers. Meanwhile, if the team manages to qualify for the final, it will be their biggest achievement, given how they have fared in the ODI format in recent times.
