India and Bangladesh are clashing against each other in the 17th match of the ODI World Cup 2023 which is being played at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune. Bangladesh, who are playing without their regular captain Shakib Al Hasan, won the toss and opted to bat first.

Meanwhile, during the first innings of the match, India faced a significant setback when their star all-rounder, Hardik Pandya, suffered an injury while delivering his first over. This occurred in the ninth over of the game when Hardik attempted to stop the ball with his right leg in his follow-through, after delivering the second delivery to opening batter Litton Das

The cameras captured Hardik experiencing difficulty and struggling to get back on his feet. He eventually limped out of the field, and a physio was called to attend to him, eventually taping his left leg. Hardik later made an attempt to return to his run-up, which was met with enthusiastic cheers from the crowd.

However, despite his determination to continue bowling, team captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli appeared to intervene at the last moment, instructing him to leave the field. To the delight of the Pune crowd, Kohli took over and bowled the final three deliveries of the over.

We want to continue this momentum: Rohit Sharma

As of now, the Indian Cricket Board has not provided any information about the extent of Hardik’s injury, as stated in their official statement: “Hardik Pandya’s injury is being assessed at the moment, and he is being taken for scans.”

Talking about the match, the Indian skipper Rohit Sharma lost the toss and was asked to field first, however, after losing the toss, he revealed that the team wanted to field first. The Men in Blue made no changes in the squad.

“I would have bowled first. It’s working at this point in time, don’t see any reason to change it. That’s important in this WC, keeping everybody in good space. The boys are in good shape, have good mental space as well and enjoying the cricket. So far so good, we want to continue this momentum, Same team.”
