Virat Kohli made his 500th international game memorable as India posted a massive first innings total of 438 against the West Indies, thanks to Kohli’s 29th Test century. From the overnight score of 288/4, team India added another 150 runs. Kohli smashed 121 runs off 206 balls, including 11 boundaries. He was the first wicket to fall for India and shortly after Ravindra Jadeja followed him with 61 off 152 balls, including five boundaries. Ravichandran Ashwin contributed a handy 56 off 78 balls, courtesy of eight boundaries as India reached 438 before getting bowled out by West Indies.

Talking of West Indies bowling, Kemar Roach and Jomel Warrican ended up scalping three wickets each, yielding figures of 3/104 (22) and 3/89 (39), respectively. Jason Holder followed them closely with figures of 2/57 (21). Shannon Gabriel scalped one wicket while the remaining wicket was a run out of Virat Kohli by Alzarri Joseph. Earlier, West Indies has won the toss and invited the Indian openers out to the middle.

West Indies enjoyed a good start with a 71-run opening stand

In reply, the Windies showed positive signs although India appear to be head and shoulders ahead in the Test match. They stitched a first-wicket partnership of 71 runs, broken by Ravindra Jadeja who was able to force Tagenarine Chanderpaul into mistiming a shot to Ashwin a shot at an easy catch. Chanderpaul scored 33 off 95, including four boundaries. West Indies closed out Day 2 at 86/1 after 41 overs bowled. Skipper Kraigg Brathwaite is out in the middle for the hosts batting at 37* off 128, including three boundaries. Alongside him is Kirk Mckenzie with 14 off 25 who has already hit one four and one maximum in his short stay at the crease.

Earlier, India had won the first Test at Dominica by an innings and 141 runs. Compared to that performance, the one in Trinidad for the ongoing Test is certainly a step in the right direction for the hosts. Following the Tests, the two teams will contest in three ODIs and five T20Is.
