Ahead of the Asia Cup and ODI World Cup this year, the India Cricket Team has reportedly been asked to follow strict discipline. These players were given a 13-day training program after India’s disastrous white-ball series in the West Indies. These are the players who didn’t play in the Ireland series but have been named in the Asia Cup 2023.

The program includes complete body tests, including blood, strength and mobility, shoulder care and glute muscles, protein intake, gym sessions, walking and running followed by swimming, yoga sessions, massage, and nine hours of sleep. Apparently, the Indian players have been injured and their injuries derailed the Asia Cup 2022, T20 World Cup 2022 and the WTC final 2023.

Only Rishabh Pant, had a freak accident on December 30 last year. Others such as KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, Jasprit Bumrah, etc. have gotten injured either in the gym or field. Meanwhile, ahead of the Asia Cup 2023, a board official has said that the programme was designed to keep them fit for the next two months.

“This is a special programme designed for players as we want them fit for the next two months. The trainer will come to know who has followed the programme and who hasn’t. The team management will then take a call on what to do with players who have not followed their programme,” an Indian Cricket Board official said.

India’s Asia Cup 2023 squad

Squad: Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, Ishan Kishan, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, Kuldeep Yadav, Prasidh Krishna, and Sanju Samson (back up).

The likes of Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul are making their comeback after long injury layoffs. They are yet to play a competitive game and only played a simulation game at the NCA, Bangalore. Sanju Samson has been named as the traveling reserve while Yuzvendra Chahal has missed out.

Some commentators were particularly scathing, questioning how Rizwan could reflect on his effort given the circumstances.

The incident has added to the scrutiny of Pakistan’s overall performance in the tournament, with many demanding better strategies and execution from key players.
