‘Prithvi Shaw be like system faad denge’ – Fans praise Prithvi Shaw for his maiden List A double hundred for Northamptonshire

Discarded India opener, Prithvi Shaw lit up the ongoing One Day 2023 in England. Playing for Northamptonshire, he amassed 244 runs in just 153 balls. During this innings, Shaw was at the crease for 49.3 overs, only three balls short of what Rohit Sharma did for India against Sri Lanka in 2014. The 2018 U19 World Cup-winning captain is playing County Cricket for the first time.

Meanwhile, in this game, the Steelbacks (Northamptonshire) won the toss and elected to bat first. The decision was proven right as the team amassed 415/8, thanks to Shaw’s innings. Apart from this, Sam Whiteman (54) was the only player to go past the 50-run mark. In reply, Somerset could only get 328, losing the game by 87 runs.

“The sun was out, it was kind of like Indian weather today so it was really looking good,” Shaw said after the game. “You know when an inside edge doesn’t get me out, that means this day is for me. You have to be lucky sometimes, so I think this was a day for me. I didn’t look back after that.

“The 227 was in my head to be honest. I spoke to Whitey [Whiteman] when he was there and I told him it’s 227, my highest score. But it was a good team effort all around. I always try and win matches for the team and I’m the kind of a player who puts my team first and then myself. If scoring like this can help my team to win, then I should continue this.”

Not thinking about Indian team selection: Prithvi Shaw

The right-hander added that playing the tournament is a great experience and he is not thinking about the selection in the Indian team.

“Definitely experience for sure. Not really thinking what the Indian selectors may be thinking, but I just want to have a good time here, have a good time with the players over here and the support staff. Northamptonshire have given me this opportunity… they’re really looking after me. I’m really enjoying it.”
