‘Lagta hai yeh bokhla gaya’ – Fans react as Aqib Javed says ‘Babar Azam is better captain than Rohit Sharma’

Aqib Javed and Rohit Sharma

The heat of an India vs Pakistan game is incomparable. It is one of the most fiercely fought games in cricket. The iconic rivalry is all set to return as the two teams gear up for the two marquee multi-lateral events – Asia Cup 2023 and the ODI World Cup 2023. The two teams will first meet in the Asia Cup 2023 when India open their campaign on September 2 in Kandy, Sri Lanka. The two teams can meet up to three times in the continental competition – once in the group stages, once in the Super Four and once in the final, the second two meetings are subject to qualification from both teams.

Talking of the ODI World Cup 2023, the marquee clash between the arch-rivals will take place in the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, the world’s largest cricket stadium. It was originally scheduled to take place on October 15, which is also Pakistan skipper Babar Azam’s birthday. However, in the recent schedule, the game was preponed to October 14 because it coincided with the Hindu festival, ‘Navaratri’ which is celebrated with great pump and joy in Gujarat.

‘Fans in India are wondering why Rohit is even the captain’ – Aqib Javed

As such, speaking ahead of the marquee clash, former Pakistan cricketer-turned-coach Aqib Javel called Babar Azam a better captain than Rohit Sharma, sparking a massive debate among fans on Twitter. “Definitely, Babar Azam is a better captain than Rohit Sharma. Babar has earned respect, and the way he has been performing in the team is there to see. I’m sure cricket fans in India are wondering why Rohit is even the captain,” he said.

He further added a comparison of Babar and Virat Kohli saying the Pakistan star batter is much more consistent. About Kohli, if you compare him with Babar, then he has one outstanding season and then there is a decline. He is a brilliant player but in patches. He is not as consistent as Babar. That is why I’m saying this is Pakistan’s best chance to beat India again in a World Cup match,” he added.
