Shah Rukh Khan with Gautam Gambhir

Gautam Gambhir hit the headlines on 21 September when he shared an image of himself with the Bollywood superstar, Shah Rukh Khan on social media. He shared the image with a caption: “He’s not just the king of Bollywood but the king of hearts. Every time we meet I go back with endless love and respect. So much to learn from u. Simply the best SRK @iamsrk.”

Seeing that image, fans went crazy and shared their views. However, both Gambhir and Shah Rukh have held a special bond between them since Gambhir’s day of playing for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the IPL. Shah Rukh Khan is still one of the co-owners of the franchise and Gambhir was a part of the team from 2011 to 2017.

Here is the shared tweet:

Gautam Gambhir led KKR to two IPL titles during his tenure

Under his captaincy stint, KKR managed to win two IPL titles (2012, 2014). So, Kolkata fans have always been a great fan of him. Currently, Gambhir is associated with the Lucknow Super Giant (LSG) franchise as the mentor of the team. During the IPL 2023, when LSG played KKR at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata, there were some banners that read: “Bring back GG to KKR.” So, the former KKR skipper shared some images with a caption that reads: “You know how much I love you Kolkata!”

Earlier, there were some reports that Gambhir might join KKR as the mentor as he might leave LSG ahead of the IPL 2024. But, those turned out to be false rumours as LSG confirmed Gambhir staying as the mentor for the upcoming season also. In 2020, during the Star Sports show Cricket Connected, Gambhir recalled the promise he made to Shah Rukh Khan after joining KKR as the skipper. He said: “This is your team, make it or break it, I will not interfere… I just promised him one thing, I don’t know where it’s gonna happen but by the time I leave, whether it’s gonna be three years or six years, this franchise will be in a much better position.”
