Day 5 of the second Test between India and West Indies at the Port of Spain got called off due to heavy rain as no play happened. As a result, the match ended as a draw and India won the two-match series 1-0. However, in this match, India showed an aggressive approach in their second innings by scoring 181 runs for two wickets in 24 overs.

Rohit Sharma smashed a 35-ball fifty while Ishan Kishan also notched up his maiden Test fifty off just 33 balls. Thus, the young wicketkeeper became the fifth fastest batter to score a fifty in the red ball format for the Men in Blue. Now, after the match, Ishan Kishan shared his views on being compared with England’s ‘Bazball’ approach.

“England are doing well but look at the pitches where they play.” – Ishan Kishan

While speaking during the post-match press conference, Ishan said: “It is not possible that you can play that fast every day, it depends upon the situation also. If the wicket is flat, where you can score quickly, and the need of the team is to get runs quickly, then I think you can take on that action. I don’t think it is necessary that we must play in an aggressive manner in every match, but whenever there will be a need of playing attacking cricket, we have got enough firepower in our ranks. I don’t think you can always play attacking shots in Test cricket.”

“It is an interesting style of play, but not possible that you play that fast in every game. You have to look at the situation. England are doing well but look at the pitches where they play. Where we play, it is not easy to bat because of turn and bounce. The kind of players we have and the number of formats and matches that we play, everyone knows his role — which match one has to play in what manner. So, personally, I feel, every match we don’t need to play like that (score quickly), but it should be situation-based,” he added.
