Indian cricket team displayed an all-round performance in the decider match of the 3-match ODI series against West Indies at the Brian Lara Stadium in Trinidad on Tuesday, August 1 and won the match by 200 runs. The team will take away many key points from the series, especially the middle-order batting concern.

Meanwhile, bowling allrounder Shardul Thakur, who was also a part of the ODI series, talked about his chances of getting a place in the squad for the upcoming OID World Cup 2023. Thakur said that his role becomes important as he has the ability to contribute even while batting at the no. 8 or 9 position. Thakur also said that he doesn’t play to get a place in the team. His aim always remains to contribute in the team’s success.

“As an all-rounder who bats in the lower order, my role also becomes important. If the No. 8 and No.9 can contribute with someone who has batted deep, that role is really important. Whenever I get an opportunity, I just try and contribute towards the team’s success. I’m not the kind of player who plays for his place in the team. If I play with that thought, I don’t think I’ll be able to play,” Thakur was quoted as saying by Cricket One.

I’ll do my job and leave: Shardul Thakur

Thakur further added and said that even if he doesn’t get picked up for the ODI World Cup, he won’t mind as it will be the management’s call completely. He said that it will be wrong of him to think that he needs to play for for his place so he’ll just do his job and leave everything on the team management.

“Even if they [team management] don’t pick me for the World Cup, it will be their call, I can’t do much. It will be wrong of me to think that I need to play for my place, that I’ll do my job and leave,” concluded Thakur.
