The much-awaited ODI World Cup 2023 is less than 2 months away as the grand event is set to be kicked off on October 5 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The 2019 World Cup finalists England and New Zealand will face off in the opening game of the tournament.

Meanwhile, the defending ODI World Cup Champion, England have recently announced their ODI squad for the upcoming ODI series against New Zealand. With star allrounder Ben Stokes coming out of his retirement, he replaced England’s young middle-order batter, Harry Brook. Many fans have reacted to the exclusion of Brook from the squad.

England announced their 15-member squad against South Africa and the English chief selector Luke Wright said that they will keep the same squad for the upcoming ODI World Cup as well. He said that it is very hard on some players that will miss the tournament but it also shows that England’s cricket have depth and strength. He also talked about Stokes’ comeback to the ODI squad and said that every fan will enjoy seeing him back in England’s ODI jersey.

“This is the squad we are going to put forward. It’s incredibly hard on some players that are going to miss out. It shows the strength and depth we have in English Cricket and there are other names who are knocking on the door as well.” Wright was quoted as saying by India.com.

“With the balance of the squad, and with only fifteen that you can name it’s incredibly tough. The return of Ben Stokes only adds to that quality with his match-winning ability and leadership. I am certain that every fan will enjoy seeing him back in an England ODI shirt again.” Wright added.
