Sarfaraz Khan gets married

Indian domestic star Sarfaraz Khan shocked the entire cricket community when images of his wedding surfaced on Sunday, August 6. The Mumbai and Delhi Capitals batter tied the knot with Romana Jahur of Kashmir. Reportedly, the couple met at a cricket match in Delhi when the new bride had gone to watch an Indian Premier League game. The duo was introduced to each other by Khan’s cousin who studied with Romana. The two struck a quick friendship which soon turned to love. The batter confessed to his cousin that he loved Romana and wanted to marry her.

Talking of the wedding, Sarfaraz was seen wearing a glittering black Sherwani while his stunning bride wore a dazzling red lehenga with heavy gold jewellery and an embroidered dupatta. Romana hails from the Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir. The ceremony took place in the native village of Sarfaraz’s new in-laws. The photos of the intimate ceremony are going viral on social media with fans flooding the comment section.

‘If the Almighty has destined it, I will play for India one day’ – Sarfaraz Khan

Meanwhile, Sarfaraz’s cricketing career has been cursed with bad luck. He has been one of the most consistent batters in domestic cricket. With an average nearing 80 and 13 centuries to his name, Sarfaraz has proved his abilities in the longest format of the game. However, he was surprisingly snubbed from the squad travelling to the West Indies. However, the batter is still hopeful of representing India. “If the Almighty has destined it, I will play for India one day,” he told a local social media person, who reported his wedding. “It was destiny that I married in Kashmir.”

Several former Indian cricketers and experts lashed out at experts following Sarfaraz’s snub from the Test squad for West Indies. One out of them was Sunil Gavaskar. “Sarfaraz Khan has been scoring at an average of 100 in all past three seasons. What does he have to do to be picked in the squad? He might not be in the XI, but you pick him in the team. Tell him that his performances are being recognised. Otherwise, stop playing Ranji Trophy. Say, it’s of no use, you just play IPL and think you are good enough for the red-ball game as well,” Gavaskar ranted.
